Emergencies push children to discover new roles for themselves in the face of difficult and unstable situations.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child provides the basic principle that should guide UNICEF's programming in child and adolescent participation in emergencies – that children and adolescents have the right to appropriate information, the right to be heard and the right to have a meaningful involvement in the emergency response, according to their best interests.
